Diverge Skyruns is a new trail running event on the wild west coast of Tasmania. Over the course of 3 days there are numerous runs to choose from with the headline races being the 50km and 25km skyruns. Skyrunning is like trail running, but harder, steeper, more technical, or generally just more “unhinged”.

We are honoured to be the official nutrition partner for the event and runners were able to restock with our gels, carb mix and electrolyte hydration at the aid stations and in the recovery area. It was surprisingly hot for the event, given that it was May and in a town that gets something like 2.5 metres of rain per year. We really went through some of the electrolyte hydration!

We tried something a little different for this event and gave all the skyrunners one of our 150ml soft flasks at check in. We had a special machine that could dispense up to 4 gels into these flasks before the event, and we had our Ultras at the aid stations for refills. This avoided runners having sticky used gel packets in their pockets and saved a little waste.

There were a couple of runners in the event with Moor as their nutrition sponsor and we were stoked to see them do so well. Two local guys, Angus Tolson and Joe Nunn competed in the 50km event with Angus winning convincingly, about 20 minutes ahead of second place, and Joe in 6th.

Joe has a great trail running blog and has a detailed write up of his experience here. And you can read more about Angus Tolson here.

We had an amazing 3 days in Queenstown. The event was incredibly well organised and we would encourage anyone who wants to experience a truly wild event to get along next year.
